Sealing Slurries with Chesterton Packing

Slurries are a mixture of solids in a liquid. Often this liquid is water. There are different types of slurries that give different challenges to seal the equipment. There are settling slurries (such as a slurry of sand in water), there are non-settling slurries (for example a mixture of corn starch in water) and dewatering slurries (like paper stock).

Chesterton has a number of packings that are all designed to seal slurries.
We have the 1830SSP Super Slurry Packing, GraphMax and the new 2211 DualPac.

Sometimes it can be confusing which packing should be selected for which application.

Let’s make this simple:

DualPac2211 should be used on heavy slurries such as slurries in mining applications. It should be especially used where the customer currently has a very short MTBR (Mean Time Between Repairs). DualPac has specifically proven itself in this type of applications.

GraphMaxshould be used on high temperature slurries where none of the other slurry packing can be used becuase of temperature limitations. Bitumen with solids is an examplke of this type of slurry.

1830SSP should be used in slurries where chemical resistance is required. These can be for example liquor applications in the Pulp and Paper industry.
